Celebrating Opening Day At Disneyland

Today is the anniversary of opening day at Disneyland!  It was on July 17, 1955 that the Happiest Place On Earth opened!  Oh, how I would have loved to have been there on opening day!  Since I wasn't even born yet that would have been impossible.  Fortunately for me at the time my mother-in-law lived in Whittier, CA. (Which is very close to Disneyland.)  She was not there on opening day but frequented the park many times afterwards. I am fortunate to have several photos from her private collection.  Many of her photos include the Mouseketeers.  I will only share a few today and save the rest for another time.

Aren't these photographs so fun to see?  I just love them and feel so lucky that my mother-in-law has passed them on to me.  Thank you Diane!!

I would love to hear your favorite Disney memory.  Just leave it in the comment box below.  Thanks so much for stopping by and I hope whatever you do this evening has a little magic in it!

  2. I remember my first visit to Disneyland and yes it was magical. That was in 1970. Since then I have been several times. The last visit was with 5 Girl Scouts and 4 adults. Because the girls were old enough we let them do their thing and one of the other adults and I hit all the shops. We wanted to ride my favorite ride "it's a Small World" but it was closed so the only ride we went on was the monorail. We walked so much we could hardly move. Memories are so cool.

  3. What great photos! I wasn't born yet either but my brother and sister were and they also lived in Whittier! They did get to go the first year it opened. Every summer when I was growing up we would go to Disneyland!

  4. These are really great photos and you are so lucky to have them. I've never been to Disney but maybe I'll bring my grand-daughter some day.

  5. Oh wow! You lucky girl. What an awesome relationship with your MIL that she would entrust these to you. She knows where your heart is.
My favorite memory took place in 1977. I was 15 when I flew by myself to CA to visit my sister. She took me to Disneyland - just the two of us. I had a blast. But at night, during the light parade, I caught the eye of Prince Charming. They stopped the coach so he could hop off. He came over to me, kneeled and kissed my hand. OMG. You could have scooped me off the pavement of Main Street LOL.
